Bangkok to Hua Hin by Train and Road

Taking the train from Bangkok

State Railway of Thailand services run from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal to Hua Hin on the southern line. The journey passes agricultural plains, provincial towns and wetlands as it heads towards the coast.

Journey times, fares and seating options depend on the service. Check the current timetable and ticket class before booking rather than assuming a fixed departure interval or journey time.

Hua Hin Station is close to the town centre. If you are staying farther along the coast or inland, allow for an onward transfer from the station.

Driving via Rama II and Phetkasem roads

The road route from Bangkok follows Rama II Road and Phetkasem Road through Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram and Phetchaburi. Urban development gives way to salt flats, plantations and limestone hills on the approach to Hua Hin.

Road travel offers flexibility over departure time and destination, particularly if you have substantial luggage. A private transfer can collect you in central Bangkok or at Suvarnabhumi Airport and take you directly to your accommodation.

Traffic affects journey times, especially when leaving Bangkok during peak commuting hours. Allow extra time for a return journey to the airport rather than relying on a fixed driving time.

Travelling from Suvarnabhumi Airport

A direct road transfer avoids travelling into Bangkok to catch a train. It also removes the need to coordinate a flight arrival with a rail departure.

If you prefer to travel by train, factor in the journey from the airport to Krung Thep Aphiwat, as well as the train journey and any transport needed on arrival in Hua Hin. Compare the whole trip, not just the time spent on board.

Choosing between rail and road

The train suits travellers who can work around a timetable and want to watch the landscape along the way. It is also a practical option for a stay near Hua Hin town centre.

A private vehicle is more direct for accommodation away from the station, including properties in the hills. The trade-off is exposure to road traffic: a door-to-door journey is convenient, but its duration is less predictable.
