Hua Hin’s Next Chapter: Wellness and Business Tourism

Hua Hin and Cha Am have joined Thailand’s national MICE City network, opening a new chapter for the region that brings together business events, wellness, hospitality and life by the sea.

Hua Hin has long been a place to escape to. Increasingly, it is becoming a place to stay.

Beyond the beach, golf courses and resort hotels, the town has developed a more year-round rhythm — supported by a growing residential community, healthcare and wellness services, restaurants and an increasingly diverse local economy. Now, a new national designation points to another stage in that evolution.

Hua Hin and neighbouring Cha Am have officially been recognised together as Hua Hin–Cha Am MICE City, joining Thailand’s national network for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions.

The designation matters less for the acronym than for the ambition behind it. Rather than trying to turn Hua Hin into a conventional conference city, the strategy is built around qualities the region already possesses: wellbeing, hospitality, gastronomy, heritage and life by the sea.

Formally launched on 29 September 2026 by Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi provinces together with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Hua Hin–Cha Am is one of six destinations newly designated in 2026. It brings Thailand’s national network to 16 and makes Hua Hin–Cha Am the first officially recognised destination of its kind in the Central Region.

For Hua Hin, the more interesting question is not simply how many events the designation might attract, but how another source of year-round activity could strengthen the town’s economy while preserving the coastal character that made it attractive in the first place.

What does the designation mean?

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions — essentially organised business travel and events.

But this is not about turning Hua Hin into a conventional conference city.

The strategy builds on qualities the region already has. Under the concept “5 Senses. One Destination.”, Hua Hin and Cha Am are being positioned around five themes: wellbeing, royal heritage, gastronomy, seaside experiences and sustainability.

Rather than competing with Bangkok on scale, the region can offer something distinctly its own: the ability to combine work with wellness, recreation and the experience of being by the sea.

Why Hua Hin?

Much of the foundation is already here.

Hua Hin has established resorts and meeting venues, internationally recognised golf courses, restaurants, healthcare and wellness services, alongside the recreational attractions of one of Thailand’s best-known coastal destinations.

Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Sitthichai Sawatsaen has highlighted accommodation, golf and health services as strengths in developing Hua Hin as a wellbeing-focused destination.

That combination creates possibilities ranging from leadership retreats and incentive trips to smaller corporate gatherings where golf, wellness or time by the sea become part of the experience.

A wider destination

Bringing Hua Hin and Cha Am together also expands what the region can offer.

Phetchaburi is recognised by "UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy" (https://www.unesco.org/en/creative-cities/phetchaburi) and adds distinctive food traditions, heritage and access to the natural environment of Kaeng Krachan. Hua Hin brings its established hospitality, golf, healthcare, wellness and longstanding reputation as a seaside destination.

Together, they offer considerably more than a meeting room or resort.

A more year-round Hua Hin

Perhaps the more interesting implication is what this could mean throughout the year.

Thailand’s 365 Days tourism strategy is encouraging travel beyond conventional holiday seasons, with greater emphasis on food, culture, communities and events. Business and organised travel can complement that approach because it is less dependent on traditional peak periods.

For Hua Hin, a more balanced flow of visitors throughout the year could support restaurants, wellness services, events and local businesses beyond the busiest holiday periods.

That matters to people who live here too.

Hua Hin has increasingly developed beyond its traditional role as a weekend and holiday resort. A stronger year-round economy can help support the amenities and services that make a town attractive not simply to visit, but to call home.

What happens next?

The designation is a starting point, not a guarantee of growth.

TCEB has outlined further work across marketing, products, personnel, infrastructure and management. Its success will ultimately depend on the events the region attracts, how well they are delivered and whether the benefits reach local businesses and communities.

It would therefore be premature to predict higher visitor numbers, new infrastructure or rising property values simply because the designation has been awarded.

What it does show is a clear effort to broaden Hua Hin’s role within Thailand.

The town has evolved repeatedly — from royal seaside retreat to international resort destination, and increasingly into a place where people choose to spend much or all of the year.

Wellness and business tourism could become another chapter in that evolution, building on rather than replacing the relaxed coastal character that has always set Hua Hin apart.

A place where business, wellbeing and life by the sea can comfortably coexist.

Information reflects announcements available as of 4 October 2026. Future programmes and infrastructure should be assessed as they are formally announced.
